The Theakston Nidderdale Cricket League have postponed Saturday’s opening fixtures of the 2016 season.
After a wide-ranging consultation exercise with League groundsmen, who have been struggling to complete pre-season preparations due to winter flooding and a very wet spring together with a poor forecast for the rest of this week and the weekend, the League Management Committee have decided to re-arrange all fixtures from Week 1 (16th April) to now be played on Saturday 17th September as set out in rule 25 h (page 62 of 2016 handbook).
League Secretary Graham Hyde said “As a League we wish to give every player the chance to play cricket but realistically we are facing a very wet start to the season and if we can help grounds be in the best shape they can be, to provide the best conditions for cricket we must enable that opportunity.”
The League must also demonstrate a duty of care to players as set out in the recent guidance on Ground, Weather and Light published on the League website.
If clubs face ground availability problems on Saturday 17th September, they must make every effort to find an alternative venue. Should problems remain, clubs are urged to contact the League Secretary as soon as possible.
