Week Nine – Results and Performances

Saturday 18th June
In Division One, Knaresborough Forest have managed to haul themselves out of the relegation zone with 2 wins on the bounce. This week a 6 wicket win over Alne who enter the drop zone. 2015 one man run factory Aaron Brunner seems to have recovered from his shoulder injury to rack up an unbeaten 117. 4 wickets from Jack Martin subjected the Magic Circle men to defeat.  Ouseburn picked up another 6 points with a convincing win over Hampsthwaite. Darley sit in second after inflicting a crushing 10 wicket defeat on near neighbours Pateley Bridge. Another 4 wickets from Burton Leonard’s Nicky Smith takes his season haul to 36 already. 50 wickets looks well within his sights but it wasn’t enough to beat a (slightly) resurgent West Tanfield. On debut after his move from Dacre Banks, Mungo Fawcett hit 80 with Aussie Julian Hulbert hitting 82 in Tanfield’s total of 284/9 (hanging on for that batting point). In reply, Burton who had showed good early season form crumbled to 152 all out thanks to 3 wickets each for Hulbert and Shaw. 5 wickets from Spofforth’s Brad Hope helped to restrict Bishop Thornton to just 103 all out. 9 of Spofforth’s men then had a lovely afternoon watching Nick Robinson (51*) and Pat Gannon (48*) knock off the runs without loss of any wickets.

In Division Two, title hopeful Masham made it 9 out of 9 with a demolition of challengers Blubberhouses. 4 wickets for Ben Fielding and 29 wickets for the season, 3 for Roger Smart and 2 for Derek Chapman had Blubberhouses reeling on 93 all out. Masham reached their target with 3 wickets down but a comfortable 6 points in the bag. There was a feast of runs at Harrogate thanks to Aussie Jordan Marshall’s 132 in his side’s 286/8. A decent total but not enough for Markington who had two centurions in their ranks. Riley Thompson’s 112* was his highest bash of the season and ably assisted by Wayne Dennis (101).

A top of Division Three clash saw Burnt Yates entertain Wath and Melmerby. After loosing opening Russ Dodson early, Brockhill (85) and Taylor (62) put on 121 for the second wicket. Triggs (33) was out hit wicket (which is rather exciting) and Steven Light (52) rounded off the innings nicely to set 286 to win for the visitors. A key Wath wicket is Bobby Hilton and he lasted just 4 balls, Kettlewell (0) came and went but Adam Newcombe (51) and Jamie Russell (50) stuck around a bit but Dominic Taylor 4-17 was the pick of the Yates bowlers and had the visitors all out for 190. Whixley keep up the chase after their 6 wicket win over Lofthouse and Middlesmoor. Batting first Lofthouse managed 110 all out thanks to 52 from Dave Dunford. Steven Green 5-33 was the pick of the Whixley attack. At 38-4 Whixley were rocking. 3 wickets for Craig Costello putting the pressure on. John Richardson 42* and Pat Greenwood 29* saw the visitors reap the reward of the journey up the Dale. A double century from Richard Kirby (202) and a 2nd wicket partnership of 221 with Ben Bennett (46) saw South Kilvington rack up a huge 334/7 against Middleham.
