Sunday 31st July sees the semi finals of the 2016 Atkinson Swires Senior Knockout when Spofforth take on Birstwith and Darley take on Helperby. Wickets are pitched at 1:30pm with each game contested over 40 overs.
Some statistics for you to contemplate so far. Bowlers have taken a total of 106 wickets with Raskelf’s Matt Hawkhead on 6 and Harrogate’s Jordan Marshall also on 6. Both clubs are taking no further part in the competition after Raskelf lost to Pateley Bridge in the second round and Harrogate were withdrawn after admitting to playing an ineligible player in their quarter final game with Darley. Mike Beecroft, Tom Clark, Nick Robinson, Dan Riley and George Hirst are all on 5 wickets and have the best opportunity to become the competition’s leading wicket taker. In terms of leading runs scorer Birstwith’s Tom Croston has smashed 288 with a best of 121 against West Tanfield in the second round. Spofforth’s Andrew Bottega is not far behind on 237 but has a higher top score of 138 made against Burton Leonard at the quarter final stage. The higest score so far in the competiion has been made by Spofforth’s Nick Robinson with 139 against first round opposition Knaresborough Forest. Given these players and their performances so far, the semi final between Spofforth and Birstwith at School Lane looks to be a tasty affair. Duncan Naylor’s Darley will have one eye on the final but what team will Helperby put out and can they put in a performance?
This season’s Atkinson Swires Senior Knock Out cup final will take place on Sunday 4th September at Ouseburn with a 1:30pm start time. All are welcome of course for the culmination of another hard fought cup competition.
