The 2016 Atkinson Swires Senior Knockout Cup final will be contested between Spofforth and Darley.
There was an absolute run fest of 601 runs at Spofforth’s School Lane ground. Batting first, Spofforth made 309/9 with centuries coming from Nick Robinson (118) and Andrew Bottega (121). They shared a 2nd wicket partnership of 212 runs. George Hirst took 3-67 for Birstwith. The top five batters for Birstwith all made telling contributions into the target. Jonny Milward (27) and Tom Croston put on 54 for the 1st wicket, James Riley made 63, brother Dan made 43 and Craig Armitage 23 but Birstwith were losing regular wickets. Graham Squires took 3-50. Darley welcomed Helperby in the other semi final. Darley put runs on the board first up and thanks to 100 from Chris Gill, 46 from Rob Hainsworth, 35 from Gary Muff and 34 from Brad Stephens posted 261/9 George Swires was the pic of the Helperby attack with 3-32 Helperby didn’t seem to really get going and were bowled out for just 118. Tom Spilman top scored with 30. Ross Sands had recovered from a wedding induced hangover took 4-25 for Darley scorecard to see them through to the cup final on Sunday 4th September at Ouseburn.
