The North Yorkshire Invitation Girls Six-Aside Cricket Tournament once again took place in Scarborough in early August with entries from Northumberland, Durham, South Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Both the Under-12 and Under-15 competitions were hard fought in front of a good crowd on wickets superbly prepared by John Dodds, the Groundsman. There was some amazing cricket and camaraderie between the girls and we are all very grateful to the coaches, umpires and especially Nigel Kenyon, the organiser. They are to be congratulated on the work put into the event.
In the Under-12 event special mention must be made of Harriet Robinson from Northumberland who completed a hat-trick whilst Matt Hurren from the YCB awarded the most promising player of the Tournament to Shauna Yates of North Yorkshire. In a bowl-out competition held later in the day, East were the victors, winning an award for their coach. The event was won by a supremely talented Northumberland side.
In the Under-15 event Dick Lloyd awarded the Most Promising Player Trophy to Rachel Foreman of Northumberland for her amazing striking of the ball throughout the Tournament. The event was eventually won by the South 2 Team.
Scarborough again provided a magnificent setting for a highly enjoyable annual event.
