Week Eighteen – Results and Performances

Comments Off on Week Eighteen – Results and Performances

A note from the League Secretary: writing this report and getting performances right takes a bit of time on a Sunday morning, but huge thanks to those guys who are now submitting FULL scorecards first. It really makes a difference to this report and stops grumpy players missing out of the recognition they deserve. Scoring on the CricHQ App is also up (30% of all games this week) which makes your life very easy.

Ouseburn need just 1 point to secure the 2016 Championship. Another win, this week against Hampsthwaite but both Birstwith and Darley missed out on continuing their challenge. Hampsthwaite and Knaresborough Forest have secured their Division One status for next season but its 2 from 3 for the drop from Pateley Bridge, Alne and Bishop Thornton. Another milestone in the Nidderdale career of Aaron Brunner (1036) sees him tip over the 1000 runs mark. Chris Gill tops the MVP table from Brunner in second.

Scotton upset the party plans at Goldsborough after a 21 run win but it still looks likely that Goldsborough will gain promotion along with Masham whoes game fell victim to the weather. Boro need 6 points from their last 3 games to secure that second promotion spot. Markington continue to consolidate a very creditable 3rd position this week with a convincing win over Harrogate Strays. Confusingly both Riley Thompsons, Markington and Newby Hall, both stood out with the balls taking 5-28 and 5-29 respectively. They are two different people honestly, although I’ve never seen them together??? Mathematically there are 6 teams in Division 2 who are wrestling each other for the final relegation place after Thornton-le-Moor were confirmed as down last week. Dacre Banks did themselves a huge favour after picking up 6 points at Studley Royal.

Division Three is always a good division to watch. Before this round of fixtures, Wath and Melmerby and Burnt Yates were level on points. Not any more and 1 played 2 and Wath came out on top. Bobby Hilton reached the 1000 runs milestone in this game. Realistically there are still 4 teams in the race for the second promotion spot but at the other end of the table, Rainton are showing their intent and haul themselves out of the bottom two at the expense of Ripon 2nds.

Boroughbridge and Staveley are 1 point away from promotion from Division Four to Three. A really great example of two clubs coming together to be stronger. Credit to them. Their effort has been hugely helped by the recruitment of former Staveley player Simon Taylor and his 47 wickets at 8.87! Great to have him back in the League. 1 from Thornton Watlass, Ouseburn 2nds and and a resurgent Killinghall are likely to join them in promotion. It looks increasingly desperate for Crakehall at the bottom of the table.

North Stainley are looking good at the top of Division Five and are currently 8 points clear of Sessay 3rds. Burton Leonard 2nds, Bishop Thornton 2nds and Blubberhouses 2nds are in real danger at the wrong end of the table.

Spennithorne and Harmby are promoted from Division Six.

West Tanfield 2nds are promoted from Division Seven.

Still all to play form in Division Eight. The two promotion places are between Scotton 2nds, North Stainley 2nds, Ouseburn 3rds and Arthington 2nds.
