Spofforth have today been crowned winners of the Atkinson Swiers Senior knockout after beating Darley by 8 wickets at Ouseburn.
Batting first, Darley set a good total of 205 on a cracking wicket which had survived the overnight rain. Rain was always threatening but Duncan Naylor (13) and Joe Furniss (21) set off well but Furniss was run out by Tom Lawson with the score on 47. In at 3 was Gary Muff but he was out first ball lbw to James Roberts. Newly wedded Jamie Sands (24) hit a few late innings runs alongside Aussie Brad Stephens who hit 106* off 83 balls. James Roberts was the pick of the Spofforth bowlers with 3-21.
Nick Robinson (65) and Pat Gannon (54) put on 155 for the first wicket and the game looked over. Andrew Bottega 28* and James Roberts 19* saw things home for the School Lane outfit. Craig Hunt lifted the trophy in the evening sunshine. Man of the Match went to Brad Stephens.
A huge thank you to the two scorers Rosemarie and Sandra, the umpires Geoff Barker and David Barnes without who the game wouldn’t be possible. Thank you to Ouseburn for hosting us and providing superb hospitality.
