There was to be no repeat of the 2016 final this year as Darley crashed out of the Senior Knockout today at the hands of Helperby. Darley were dismissed for 186 but after a promising start thanks to Rob Best (42) and Joe Furniss (30) who put on 66 for the first wicket. Jonathan Rice hit 21 and Ross Sands 19 with Luis Rees-Hughes the pick of the Helperby bowlers taking 4-30 and Matt Cavanagh 3-34. Rees-Hughes (29) also did some damage with the bat in a first wicket stand of 77 with Dylan Steyn (48). Mark Spilman (27) moved Helperby closer to the target but it was left to Matt Cavanagh (35*) and Joss Spilman (25*) to see Helperby across the line and grab a semi final birth.
There was a run feast at Birstwith on arguably the best wicket in the league. The home side batted first against Division Two high flyers Blubberhouses and posted a challenging 329/8 Jonny Millward top scored with 96, Tom Croston 55 and Craig Armitage 51 helped the total along. Bash Khan took 3-39 for the visitors. Bash was the pick of the batters with 50 for Blubberhouses but the home side’s bowlers chipped in at regular intervals and finally it was all over in the 38th over.
It was clearly a step too far in the season for Division One table toppers Ouseburn as they were comprehensively taken apart by Masham. Batting first, Masham, conceding home advantage by playing the fixture at West Tanfield, posted 203/9. Nathan Klenig was 91 not out with some support from Kyle Coetzee (27) and wides (29). Adam Fisher was the pick of the Ouseburn bowlers taking 4-25 and Chris Morrison taking 3-29. In reply, there really was no reply. Ousebunr were sent packing for just 73 with Pete Carr top scoring with 24. Five batsmen failed to trouble the scorers but Klenig made hay with 4-6 and Fielding 3-4.
Michael Litterbach (74) stood out with the bat for Studley Royal 2nds in their total of 132 all out but it wasn’t enough as Knaresborough Forest eased past them and into the semi finals. Joel Ainsley took 3-22 and Stewart Pyke 3-16 to restrict the Studley outfit. Aaron Brunner carried his bat for 73* in the Forest total of 134. Ollie Schofield took 4-24.
