Galphay and Winksley

If the 2017 season wasn’t bad enough for team upheaval, it is with great sadness that I bring you the news that Galphay and Winksley have taken the decision to withdraw from the Theakston’s Nidderdale League with immediate effect.

Secretary, Helen Rowe said “It is a decision which we hoped to avoid and we have enjoyed many years playing within the Nidderdale League against friends and some fantastic opponents.”

We are in very different times where cricket is concerned which seem to be a function of where we are as a society and seemingly how time poor we all are.  Cricket will always be there, I am sure of that, but in what form?  As the current guardians of the game I feel we are not paying it the attention it deserves.

Galphay and Winksley join Pannal 3rds and Little Ribston 2nds in pulling out of the League, but more significant is the loss of the facility at Galphay.  It is unlikely that we shall see cricket on the fabulous little ground again.

All scheduled fixtures will now be cancelled and replaced by free weeks.  If you can arrange friendly games, please do so.  Points gained or lost against Galphay will be removed and League tables adjusted accordingly.

Revised promotion and relegation details for the 2017 season will be communicated separately.
