Further Information

The weather forecast for the day was not good but it was a bright and windy morning that greeted our visitors Bilton. Having lost the toss Beckwithshaw were asked to bat first. Captain Ben Waller (18 runs) and his opening partner Tyler (9 runs) shared a really nice partnership of 36 runs getting Beckwithshaw off to just the start they wanted. Ben was particularly pleased to end his innings with two 4’s and a six. This partnership was followed by another great partnership of 24 runs by Jo (8 runs) and Ben Stokes (7 runs) with both boys showing great maturity and each hitting a very stylish 4. Beckwithshaw then had a little stutter as Bilton bowler Joe Schofield bowled an inspired triple wicket maiden including a hat-trick – very well done Joe. Jordan and Jonathan came in as the last pair and with their usual aggressive batting and running between the wickets put on an impressive 43 runs with Jordan making 22, including one 6 and Jonathan making 13. What was particularly pleasing for the coach was both boys’ willingness to play defensive shots when facing good deliveries. This partnership catapulted Beckwithshaw to an impressive 296. In reply Bilton’s openers struggled against some accurate bowling from Jordan and Jonathan and it was good to see Jordan get his rhythm back and take 2 wickets for 6 runs. Most of the Beckwithshaw bowlers bowled tightly and there were a couple of excellent diving stops by Tom Peakman. Despite a flourish from Ben (13 runs including a six) at the end of the Bilton innings the last two Beckwithshaw bowlers, Tyler and Ben Waller, picked up a wicket each as Bilton finished on 249. Thanks to Richard, Michael and the Bilton boys for a good game of cricket and it is clear that Bilton look like they will be a good under 9’s team next season as quite a few of their current players are under 8’s. This game brought the League group games to an end for Beckwithshaw and they have had a great season losing only the first game of the season against Pannal (again!) in winning group B. Well done to today’s team plus Matthew Walmsley, Billy Pearson, Grace Booth, Finlay Bailey-Hague, Max Ballinger, Emily Walmsley, Oliver McAllister, Guy Kitching, Jack Shackleton and Matthew Bates who have all played their part in this success.
