Further Information

A beautiful evening for cricket at St Georges Road bewteen two strong-looking teams. Harrogate won the toss and asked Beckwithshaw to bat. This decision paid instant dividends when Callum bowled William with the first ball of the innnings. However sensible batting from then on from Ralph (13 runs) and William meant that after the first four overs the score was 218. Jonas and Charles then shared an important partnership of 27 runs with Jonas hitting four 4's in a very good innings of 18. Then came a superb partnership of 43 runs between Jordan and Ethan with Jordan (under 8) boshing the ball to all parts of the ground, including four consecutive fours in an over, in what turned out to be a match-winning innings of 28. The final pair of Charlie and Liam struggled to cope with the bouncy wicket, and with a superb over of leg spin bowling from William, but got Beckwithshaw up to a very respectable total of 291. In reply the first two pairs for Harrrogate put on partnerships of 27 and 29, respectively, despite two wickets for Liam and one each for Ethan and Jordan. At this stage Harrogate looked to be in control of the game. A wicketless, but nonetheless, tight four overs from Jonas and Charles meant that Harrogate needed 22 of the last four overs to win the game. However, superb bowling from both Ralph (1 wicket) and William (3 wickets) didn't allow the final Harrogate pair to get going and both players also kept cool, under considerable pressure, to produce an excellent run-out each. William bowled with pace, accuracy and hostility and was an absolute pleasure to watch. Both bowlers were supported by excellent fielding including a very important catch by Ethan. In the end Harrogate fell 22 short of their target ,at 270, but it had been a very enjoyable game to watch between two very accomplished teams. Well done to all those who played and thanks to Tom and co for two great games in recent weeks in which the standard of the cricket has been extremely high.
