Further Information

In the under 9 league play-off final Beckwithshaw won the toss and skipper Ralph asked Studley Royal to bat first. Some excellent running between the wickets by Jack and Eli gave Studley a steady start before a great partnership of 23 runs between William and Rick put the home team in a strong position. Jordan and Joe then bowled tightly for Beckwithshaw with Jordan (2-0-5-2) claiming two crucial wickets, helped by a great catch by Charles, and Joe (2-0-12-1) taking a spectacular caught and bowled off a fiercely struck straight drive. William (2-0-7-2) and Ralph (2-1-5-1) bowled with great accuracy, pace and control in the final four overs, taking three wickets between them, to restrict Studley to a total of 242. The same players then got the Beckwithshaw innings off to a solid start despite losing a wicket to a very sharp catch by Jack off a firm cover drive. Beckwithshaw were then thankful for a crucial partnership between Jordan and Joe both of whom struggled early on in their innings but then batted sensibly and ran brilliantly between the wickets to score 13 and 15, respectively. Tight bowling by Adam (2-0-9-2) and William (2-0-6-2) meant that Beckwithshaw were just a few runs ahead of the Studley total with their final pair coming to the wicket. However, a magnificent innings of 21 runs by Liam, who shared a final pair partnership of 35 with Charlie, meant that Beckwithshaw pulled away and ended up comfortable winners on 284. Studley tried hard right up until the end of the game but were unlucky to come up against such a strong Beckwithshaw team, who, having won the inaugural Coad Cup earlier in the season completed the League and Cup “double”. The players representing Beckwithshaw in the play-off final were Ralph Hillhouse (capt.), William Eardley, Joe Ramsay, Jordan Swires, Charles Hewlett, Jonas Greenall, Liam Kitching, Charlie Stokes and Tom Stark (reserve) but mention must also go to Morgan Medcroft, Ethan Emsley, Grace Booth, Daniel Considine-Tyreman, Oliver Considine-Tyreman and Sam Tiffany who all played several games in the qualifying League matches.
