Further Information
The first under 9 game of the season for Beckwithshaw and a young side, with 5 players making their League debuts, took to the field at Weeton and Huby CC. Pannal won the toss and chose to bat first. Most of the Pannal batsmen scored a few runs and there was some clever running between the wickets at the end as they accumulated a total of 277. Wicket-taking Beckwithshaw bowlers were Finlay (2 wickets for 10 runs) and Grace (1 for 11) but all the other bowlers bowled reasonably well. A special mention for Emily who has only been playing cricket at Beckwithshaw for 1 week but conceded just 7 runs in her 2 overs by bowling very straight. A few silly fielding mistakes meant that the Pannal score was 8-10 runs higher than it should really have been. In reply Jordan and Ben got the Beckwithshaw innings off to a good start with some big shots and a total of 21 runs for the first pair but some tight Pannal bowling in the middle overs meant that the last pair of Matthew and Grace needed to score 28 runs to win. Despite a fantastic effort by these two Beckwithshaw ended up just short of the Pannal total making 271. Tim bowled very well for Pannal taking 2-10 and also captained his side with great maturity. A good game and I’m sure that the Beckwithshaw newcomers will have learned a lot from this experience. Good luck to Phil and Pannal for the rest of the season.
