Further Information

On a bitterly cold evening Knaresborough won the toss decided to bowl first. Despite some sensible batting by Matthew, Beckwithshaw were 4 runs behind where they started the game, on 197, at the end of the first 4 overs due to some exceptional fielding by Dan who took two catches and pulled off two brilliant run outs and great bowling by the first 4 Knaresborough bowlers, particularly James (1 wicket for just 3 runs). The next two Beckwithshaw batters (Henry and Tom) steadied the ship each hitting a boundary and getting their team into plus figures on the scoreboard. A nice innings of 10 runs by Max meant Beckwithshaw added a few more runs for the 3rd pair but it was the arrival of Jordan that really changed the game. He hit an aggressive 16 and was well supported by Ben, who hit a fantastic 4 of his own despite being hit twice by the bowler just before this. The last pair catapulted the score from 228 to a final total of 259, which game Beckwithshaw a reasonable target to bowl at. In reply Knaresborough got off to a shaky start of their own when Jordan took a wicket in a hostile spell of bowling. The Beckwithshaw bowlers then bowled really tightly to keep Knaresborough behind the required pace with Max (1 wicket for 8 runs) and Tom (an exceptional 2 wickets for 6 runs) being the pick of the bowlers. Matthew also picked up a wicket with his first ball and Guy showed a lot of character to get a wicket towards the end of his two overs. Henry bowled an excellent maiden and conceded only 3 runs in two overs. Some good batting by Dan and Joe at the end of the innings, and some slightly shaky fielding, meant that Knaresborough edged closer to the Beckwithshaw total but eventually fell just short on 249. Well done to both teams for an enjoyable game of cricket on a very cold night and hopefully we can have an equally close game in the Coad Cup in a couple of weeks time.
