Further Information
The first U11 Lord's Taverners game took place on Sunday at Collingham and Linton Cricket Club, a glorious sunny day perfect for the fixture. Wetherby won the toss and elected to field which suited Louis at the time as he had decided to bat if he won the toss, 30 overs in the field on a hot sunny day for the Wetherby fielders perfect. Everything was going well the openers did just what they had been asked saw off the opening bowlers and keeping everything nice and steady until Louis got one that he was too early on and popped up a catch, much to his disgust as you could see he was enjoying his time out in the middle. In came Sam Hughes to Join Jack Witham in the middle and suddenly the tempo began to rise even thoiugh we were only still in the 9th over when he came in. Some very good scoring shots from both players to produce a partnership off 92. We then got to the last 5 overs and the boys realised they then had to move it on and Jack got himself caught trying to get it over the fielders. Oliver Simenacz then came in and took a beamer straight to the chest which had him in some discomfort, however despatching the next ball for 4 was some payback to the bowler. Oliver was then caught on the penultimate ball leaving James to go in for the 1 ball left.
The bowling and fielding was then the slight difference between the sides, slightly flat footed in the field and too many balls down leg side to an opening pair who missed nothing on that side, however not as many wide balls as the opposition had bowled. An extremely tight spell of seam bowling from James Ward and a very good catch from Jack Witham, 2 direct hit run outs from Jack Witham and Sam Hughes being the highlights of the 2nd half.
We now look forward to a probable stearner test on the 4th of July at Birstwith CC versus Halifax League
