Further Information

On a sunny, summer’s evening Beckwithshaw won the toss and captain Ben Waller decided to bowl first. Jonathan and Jordan bowled well first up with Jordan recapturing his bowling form and taking two wickets. The bowling and fielding were generally very good with Matthew, Max, Grace and Tyler all taking a wicket each but all the bowlers bowled good straight lines. The bowlers were well supported by some excellent fielding especially from Ben Waller who, despite being injured, got two run outs, one with a brilliant direct hit from about 20 yards. Knaresborough’s batsmen kept accumulating runs but could perhaps have taken a few more sharp singles. After 16 overs they had scored 250 which seemed a decent total. In reply Tyler (14 runs) gave Beckwithshaw a great start with two nice fours in the third over and put on 23 runs with Grace for the first pair. Matthew and Max then had a good partnership of 17 runs with Matthew’s running between the wickets once again a highlight of the innings. Beckwithshaw then hit a rocky patch with a spate of quick wickets including a couple of daft run-outs and so when Jordan and Jonathan came to the wicket, as the final pair, Beckwithshaw were still 5 runs behind. Both these batters lost a wicket to put us back under a little pressure but both eventually settled down to play sensible cricket and get Beckwithshaw over the winning line on 260. Possibly the least good batting performance of the season but credit must go to Knaresborough’s bowlers who bowled well, giving away very few wides and pushing the home team right until the end. Matthew and Ben both got two wickets for K’boro with one each for Harry (on a good debut), Matthew E, Joe and Seb In the end a very tight game between two well-matched sides. Thanks to John and Knaresborough for our three games this season all of which have been close and played in a good spirit.
