2012 Knockout Rules
1. The Competitions to be called the 'Nidderdale League Knock-out Competitions'.
Atkinson Swires Cup - Divisions 1 and top 4 teams from Division 2.
Barrett Cup - Remaining 8 teams from Division 2, Divisions 3 and 4.
Wath Cup - Divisions 5 and 6. Peter Bentley Cup - Divisions 7, 8 and 9
2. Competions
The Competitions shall be governed by the League Management Committee.
3. Subscriptions
Clubs to be admitted to the competition on payment of £10. Clubs failing to fulfil a fixture in the Senior Competition (Atkinson/Swires) will be fined £30 and Barrett Cup, Wath Cup and Peter Bentley Cup will be fined £20. In addition teams in ATKINSON SWIRES CUP failing to fulfil a fixture will have 6 (SIX) League Points deducted. Second division teams in the Reserve Knockout Cup failing to fulfil a fixture will also have 6 (SIX) League points deducted. Fines for cancellation of re-arranged Cup Matches to be at the discretion of the Management Committee.
4. Cup Draw.
All names of teams to be placed in a box and drawn out in pairs. The first team out of each pair to be the home team.
5. Eligibility of Players
a: i) Players whom the Management Committee consider to be Senior Players of League Clubs who also have teams in other Leagues MAY NOT play in such competitions.
ii) Other players from such Clubs must have been selected and available to play in at least one Saturday match with their Nidderdale League side before the first round and three such matches before the second and subsequent rounds.
b: i) Clubs which have both teams in the Senior Competition must not play players with 1st XI experience that season in their 2nd XI unless they have played at least one Saturday league match in the 2nd XI before the first round and three such matches before the second and subsequent rounds.
ii) Clubs which have two/three teams in the Barrett Cup, Wath Cup or Peter Bentley Cup Competitions must not play players with 1st XI experience that season in their 2nd/3rd/4th XI unless they have played at least two Saturday league matches in the 2nd/3rd/4th XI before the first round and three such matches before the second and subsequent rounds.
c: Clubs which have teams in two of the four Competitions must not play players in the lower of the two who have played more matches in the 1st XI than in the 2nd XI during that season unless prior approval is given by the CUP COMPETITIONS SECRETARY or the Management Committee not less than 48 hours before the tie is due to be played.
d: No player may play in the semi-final or final unless he has played in at least one previous round for that team or is a regular Saturday player with that team in the current season. In addition a regular (bona-fide) 2nd or lower XI player may play in any round for a higher XI whether or not he has played in any previous round for the higher XI.
e: In special circumstances, the Management Committee reserves the right to waive the above conditions providing prior application is made not less than 48 hours before the tie is due to be played.
f: Any club found guilty of playing an ineligible player in any cup competitions, will, in addition to any penalty imposed, be automatically excluded immediately from any further participation in such competition.
g: No player can play for more than one club in any of the league's knockout competitions in the same season.
6. Notification of Results
1 a) After each match the Home Side shall telephone, fax or Email the result of their match to the Cup Competitions Secretary no later than midnight on the match day. Clubs failing to do so will be fined £5.00.
b) Each team shall submit online a full score-sheet of both teams, including times of commencement and drawing of stumps, bowling analysis and the full names of all the players in the match.
c) Online result sheets must be submitted by ALL teams, for every round, whether the match was played or not, giving the full names of all players selected to play.
d) These score-sheets must be submitted online on or before noon, no later than 3 days following the match.
e) The name of the club submitting the score-sheet must be clearly shown.
f) i) Any team failing to submit a fully completed score-sheet by the requisite deadline will be fined £10. Should a team fail to submit a score-sheet including on 3 or more occasions in any season the Management Committee will deduct that team 6 points for this offence.
ii) If a team receives a bye in the first round of a cup competition they shall submit a team list to the Cup Competitions Secretary as if they had played a match.
iii) In the event of a club conceding a match it is the responsibility of the club conceding the match to notify the Umpires and Umpires Secretary. Any club failing to do so will pay both Umpires Fees.
iv) In the event of a match being postponed it is the responsibility of the home club to notify the Umpires and Umpires Secretary. Any club failing to do so will pay both Umpires Fees.
7. Match Conditions
a: Atkinson Swires Cup (to be played on Sundays)
i) Clubs must play their matches on the Sundays appointed (weather permitting) unless the provisions of Rule 8 apply.
ii) All matches to commence at 2pm and be of 40 overs maximum a side with a maximum of 8 overs per bowler. Where weather conditions prior to the commencement of a match cause a reduction in the maximum number of overs available to each side, the allocation of overs per bowler shall be reduced prorata.
iii) Any team not ready to commence at the time appointed shall forfeit the toss.
iv) The tea interval must not exceed 30 minutes.
b: The Balls to be used throughout the League are the Lords Regal County Crown Ball or the Lords Shooting Star and should be identifiable as such.
i) In the event of delayed start or of interruption due to the weather innings of the side batting first, one over for every 6 minutes lost will be deducted from each team.
ii) No match to consist of less than 20 possible overs per team.
c: i) In the event of further interruptions due to the weather during the innings of the side batting second, one over for every 3 minutes lost will be deducted until 20 overs remain when the umpires shall determine whether the match will be continued or abandoned.
ii) The target score of the side batting second will then be calculated by multiplying the reduced number of overs by the average runs per over scored by the side batting first.
iii) The match shall be abandoned if, in the opinion of the umpires, light or weather conditions make it impossible for the match to be completed.
d: i) Postponed or abandoned matches shall be played on the following Sunday. In such circumstances if the ground of the team drawn to be the home team is unavailable then the tie MUST be played on that of their opponents. The only exception to this will be where the provisions of Rule 8 apply.
ii) As a last resort and with the approval of the Management Committee they may be played on an evening and consist of 20 overs per side, with a maximum of 4 overs per bowler.
e: i) The team scoring the higher number of runs shall be the winner.
ii) If the scores are equal, the team which has lost fewer wickets shall be the winner. If still equal, the winner will be the team with the higher score after 30 overs, or if still equal, after 20 overs, or if still equal after 10 overs and if still equal in single overs thereafter, 9, 8, 7 overs etc.
f: If Wicket covers are available then the wicket may be wholly covered during any interruptions due to the weather.
8. Fixture Clashes
a: Cup matches shall take precedence over all other fixtures other than matches played by the League (or Joe Lumb) Representative Side.
b: A Club will under obligation to release any of its players to play in a League Representative Side unless in the absolute discretion of the Management Committee it shall be decided to waive the rule.
9. Barrett Cup, Wath Cup and Peter Bentley Cup Competitions
a: Clubs must play their matches on the dates appointed (weather permitting.) No postponements will be allowed other than as a result of the weather. This clause also applies to the Atkinson Swires Cup Competition.
b: All matches to commence at 6.30 pm. Any team not ready to commence at the time appointed shall forfeit the toss.
c: If in the opinion of the home club the ground is unfit for play they may with the approval of the opposing team cancel the game not later than 4.30pm on the day of the match, otherwise both teams must be on the field of play by 6.30 pm when the umpires, or in their absence, the captains or officials shall be the sole judges of the fitness of the ground to play.
d: The Umpires Secretary MUST be informed if such a cancellation takes place.
e: i) Each team to bat 20 x 6 ball overs (16 x 6, in first round matches) unless dismissed before, with a limit 5 overs per bowler
ii) The bowler's run-up must not exceed 12 yards - the extent of the runup to be clearly marked.
iii) The team scoring the most runs shall be the winner.
iv) In the event of a tie, the winner shall be the team losing the fewer wickets.
v) If the match is still tied, the winner shall be the team scoring the most runs off the bat
vi) If still tied the match shall be replayed.
vii) The Balls to be used throughout the League are the Lords Regal County Crown Ball or the Lords Shooting Star and should be identifiable as such.
f: Boundaries to be 4 and 6 runs.
10. Umpires. (All Competitions)
a: i) Neutral umpires for all matches in all four Competitions.
ii) For matches played in the Atkinson Swiers Cup, their expenses shall be £30 each inclusive of travelling expenses except when only one umpire is present when the fee shall be increased to £40, which shall be shared by both teams. For matches played in the Barrett Cup, Wath Cup and Peter Bentley Cup, their expenses shall be £15 each inclusive of travelling expenses except when only one umpire is present when the fee shall be increased to £20, which shall be shared by both teams.
iii) Umpires fees will be paid from League funds for Finals only. b In the event of an umpire not turning up, the two captains should appoint one on the ground.
11. Scorers. (All Competitions)
All teams MUST have a Scorer in Semi-Finals and Finals. The Captain on any team not having a scorer must depute one of his team to act as scorer even if this means fielding with 10 men.
12. Use of Grounds
a: All semi-finals to be played on the ground of the team which is drawn out of the hat first.
b: i) All finals to be played on neutral grounds.
ii) Clubs must, if called upon, prepare and allow the use of their ground for such finals.
c: A collection to be taken or raffle held at the FINALS and proceeds handed over to the Cup Competitions Secretary.
13. Abandoned Matches
a: Atkinson Swires Cup Competition - See Rule 7d.
b: Barrett Cup, Wath Cup and Peter Bentley Cup Competitions
i) If abandoned must be replayed completely.
ii) The responsibility for re-arranging an abandoned tie rest with the two clubs taking part who must arrange a suitable date for a replay, which should be NO LATER THAN SEVEN DAYS FOLLOWING THE ORIGINAL MATCH DAY. The Cup Competitions Secretary and Umpires Secretary must be notified of the re-arranged date within 24 hours of the original match day.
14. Objections
a: Any club wishing to raise an objection must inform the Cup Competitions Secretary within THREE DAYS of the match.
b: This objection must be accompanied by a fee of £5 which will be returned if the objection be sustained or the Management Committee feel that the club is right in raising an objection but are of the opinion that it is not necessary to penalise the opposing club.
c: The protesting club shall send, by recorded delivery, a copy of their protest to the other club.
15. Return of all trophies
Winners, Runners Up and Man of the Match trophies to be returned ENGRAVED to the Cup Competitions Secretary no later than 3 weeks before the first final. £25 fine for not returning trophies on time 16. Rules 28, 29, 35, 36, 37 & 38 of the Rules and Constitution 2010 shall apply to this competition as if the same had been fully set out in these Rules.
