Courses
Five dates for courses were offered two of which had to be cancelled due to lack of numbers. We have managed to fill one course for the Safeguarding and Protection Children run by Sports Council UK on 11th February with 20 candidates attending. The Time to Listen course attracted enough numbers for two dates. These were run by Ray Knowles County Welfare Officer with help from his two deputies Brian Farrell and Jack Carson.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Sir Thomas for providing the venue and to his staff for all their help. I would also like to say thank you to Jenny Carter for all her help and patience throughout the date changes and cancellations.
Letter to Clubs
A letter has now been sent to all clubs informing them of the forms and policies they need to have in place as minimum. Any clubs working towards Club Mark or have already been accredited will not have to change anything.
Clubs have been reminded that they need to have a Child Welfare Officer and and a deputy in place before the start of the season. I have sent a form attached to the letter to ensure we have details of the Welfare Officer and their deputy. I have also asked for the dates and venues of the courses that they have attended. A time limit has been set for attending these courses as mid season. I would ask the committee to agree sanctions for non compliance. Jack Carson informed me that other Leagues are not allowing games to be played if the Child Welfare Officer has not attended the courses.
Web Page
I have asked Ben to put the forms and policies on the web page as downloads so that all clubs can access them. (Packs have also been put together for the captains meeting.)
I have also asked that the information on the web page be changed regarding the under 12s playing in adult cricket.
8. Junior League Representative (Ken Coad (KC)
103 teams have finally entered for the 2010 season. This is an increase of 5 against 2009, but 1 below the record level of 104 in 2008. The number of participating Clubs remains at 27.
The pre season Committee Meeting was held in February, when the league formats based upon the team entries was decided. Sadly, Ouseburn could not agree with the Committee allocation of Premier League teams for the Under 15 and Under 13 Age Groups, and subsequently have not entered an Under 13 team this season, preferring to play friendlies. The Premier Leagues are an experiment this season to hopefully improve standards at all levels, and I am sure we will learn from this season.
We now have a full Committee, with the vacant Under 15 Secretary position being filled.
Although 31st January was the deadline for submitting 2010 team entries, this was badly abused this year and a new deadline structure will have to be put in place for 2011.
Our League sponsors have agreed to fund up to £300, the purchase of tracksuits for our Joe Lumb side.
On behalf of the Junior League, I attended The YCB Junior Cricket Forum at Headingley on Wednesday 8th March. This is an opportunity to understand any new initiatives that other junior leagues are adopting, and I think this will continue to be of value to our League.
Three issues which arose at the Forum which impact Senior cricket, and therefore require discussion at this meeting are:
1) The ECB Directive issued on 2nd February concerning Under 13 and Under 12 players.
2) The ECB Fast Bowling Match Directive.
3) Young wicket keepers (Under 18) wearing of helmets. Parental consent not to wear a helmet should no longer be accepted.
Annex 1 contains details of the clubs who are entering teams in the Nidderdale Junior League in the 2010 season.
9. Six Aside Junior Indoors (Bill Kitson BK)
BK could not attend the meeting and sent a report instead.
The current season is drawing to a close with only one more session before the finals on 10th April. The competition for places has been very strong with two leagues being decided on averages and everything to play for on the last days.
The under 11 is yet to be decided, but so far, Studley Royal will play Pannal in the under 17, Knaresborough will play Pannal in the under 15, Harrogate A play Harrogate B in the under 13s and Studley Royal play Newby Hall in the under 9s. This is the first season for Newby Hall and it is encouraging to see one of their five teams achieving a place.
Andy Groves, sports reporter, from the Harrogate Advertiser has mentioned that he will try to come to the Centre on finals day. This will promote the Juniors and give the children the recognition they deserve.
Val is still in negotiation with Boroughbridge High School re use of their facilities as a second venue. They have offered assistance from the centre staff to run the sessions which would help to overcome the stumbling block we have with the need for a session manager. We have been offered the entire winter season, which means the teams will no longer need to play abridged leagues. If this is forthcoming then it is likely that next season will be far easier to organise. Boroughbridge are comparable on price and have asked that other local teams be allowed to join the Indoor League. We do not envisage any difficulties in doing so, as this will strengthen the competition. In the event, the school will supply the relevant details. As soon as a decision is reached I will inform the committee.
10. League Representative Side (Alex Houseman AH))
No fixtures from Leeds Area Knock Out received yet
Ingilby Shield fixture sorted for 25th July at Ripley CC
No captain as yet but one has been approached.
3 leading players in the League have been approached to form a selection committee to form a squad of players for the season.

12. Golden Oldies (Sir Thomas Ingilby (TI)

Not many confirmations from local teams but this may be due to the cost to enter
£975 is the cost for local teams to enter which is putting teams off
