4. REPORTS
A. Secretary's Report - Tricia heard
Since the end of the 2000 season we have been saddened by the deaths of 'The doctor' and Martin Lay - both long standing members of the Management Committee before becoming Life Members. We have already paid our respects to them this evening but I now put on record that both of them will be sadly missed throughout the league.
In October we heard of the tragic death of Dean Ayres from Goldsborough C.C. He was a member of the representative side that played in 2000. A cup is to be awarded annually to the Best All Rounder in Goldsboroughs 1st Eleven in his name.
The 2000 season began on April 22'''' with only one match being started and then abandoned. This was at Thornton Watlass.
The Atkinson I Swires final was played at Ripon when Killinghall beat Pateley Bridge and Dave Owram of Pateley Bridge taking the Man of the Match Award. The Reserve Knock-Out Cup went to Pannal who beat West Tanfleld at Burton Leonard where Mark Pearson of Pannal was Man of the Match. The Wath Cup was again zoned up to the Semi Final stage and the Final took place at Goldsborough when Thornton Watlass beat Dishforth and Simon/Steve Jones won the Man of the Match award.
The Pre-Season Meeting for 2001 will again be held at Studley Royal C.C. on Friday April 6th at 7.3Opm. This meeting is for all Team Captains, League Umpires, Ground Committee Members and Management Committee.Everything needed for the season should be there for you to collect - Handbooks, Registration Sheets, Chairman's Undertaking Sheets, Transfer Forms, Cricket Balls and anything else that needs to come to you.
Results - There are still a few clubs who do not ring in their match result as soon as I would like them to do. If you get your result to me before 8.1 5pm on Saturday evening then the result will be in ' Yorkshire on Sunday 'the next morning ( providing that I can get through to the Copy Desk ) They will accept batting figures of 50 and over and bowling figures of 5 and over. Results may be Phoned. Faxed or E Mailed to me. I do need the result as soon as possible after the close of play and certainly no later than 12 o'clock on Sunday. If you do not give me the result and the result sheet does not arrive by Tuesday Morning, then the league tables will not be up to date when published by Ackrill Newspapers in their Friday Publications.
We must again thank Ackrill Newspapers for the continued support they give to the league. Other Newpapers who take our results are the Darlington and Stockton Times, The Northern Echo, The Wharfdale and Airedale and the Craven Herald.
The Management Committee met on seven occasions - 6 regular meetings and 1 to consider Proposed Rule Changes for 2001. A sub committee met on several occasions to formulate the new Rules and Constitution which hopefully will be accepted later this evening.
Any Clubs who have not given me alterations for printing in the Handbook please give them to me this evening. There are also lists for entering the number of Handbooks and Cricket Balls required for the coming season.
Sir Thomas as always has given endless time and energy to the League in year 2000 and on behalf of all the members I thank you.
Finally I end by wishing you all a very successful and enjoyable 2001 season.
B. Treasurer's Report - Neil Burtwistle
Balance sheets were distributed and the treasurer answered questions on a few points. Since 1995 we have made a profit on sale of balls. The dinner has been running at a loss over the last few years. The Balance Sheet and Statement on Financial Affairs ( by the treasurer ) were accepted by the meeting.
C. Grounds Committee Report - Bill Kitson/Chris Newton
The Ground Committee held 5 meetings throughout the year. For various reasons we have lost 4 members during 2000. The Committee have obtained the services of 2 excellent new members in Bob Hesk and Ben Drummond but are seeking to recruit 2 further members as soon as possible.
Bob Hesk has formulated a month by month Groundsman's Calender outlining work to done throughout the year and this has been circulated to all clubs. The most improved ground award went to Middleham C.C. with a 26% improvement in Ground Marks. Congratulations to them. Looking forward to the 2001 season. Groundsmen should be aware of a change to pitch markings occasioned by the New Laws of Cricket. From the start of this season the bowlers'' Danger Area'' mark will be 5 ft. in front of the Popping Crease instead of 4 ft as in the past.
Groundsmen should also be aware that stumps and bails should now conform to the dimensions outlined in the Laws, which for the first time include strict measurements for bails.
Grounds allocated for 2001 Cup finals are as follows
Atkinson Swires - Burton Leonard C.C.
Reserve Knock Out - Pateley Bridge C.C.
Wath Cup - Kirkby Malzeard C.C.
All Grounds will be inspected as usual prior to the start of the season. Dates for these inspections and allocations of grounds to each Inspector will be made at the next Ground Committee Meeting. Clubs whose groundsman may wish to be present at the inspection can phone either Chris Newton or myself for details of the Date and Inspector.
D. Representative Xl Report - Tony Whittaker
The year 2000 season was a mixed one in terms of results for the representative eleven. We reached the semi-final of the Yorkshire Inter-League Competition losing to Nat West Alliance by lO runs in a close game at Raskelf
Unfortunately due to a backlog of fixtures in our own cup competition, brought about in the main by fixtures of external competitions which some of our clubs deem fit to enter, it was impossible to fit in the proposed rounds of the Leeds Area Knock Out. We therefore had to withdraw prior to playing any games.
On the playing side, we again operated the policy of introducing some of our leagues more promising youngsters into the representative side to give them more experience against stiffer opposition, in order to enhance their careers. This resulted in some excellent performances from the likes of Anthony Mackle (Studley Royal) Thomas Durance (Killinghall) Dan Shuff (Birstwith) and David Cummings (Goldsborough).
The Annual Match against the M.C.C. held this year at Studley Royal was again a most enjoyable occasion although the result, despite the gallant attempt of our bowlers with the bat, went against us.
My thanks to both Raskelf and Studley Royal for putting on the home matches and for providing excellent pitches and facilites.
Additional thanks to Sir Thomas for the post M.C.C. match dinner at the Castle, for Tricia Heard in being her usual self and organising the matches and to all those officials and supporters who gave their time to officiate or watch the various games throughout the season.
E. Umpires Secretary Report - Ron Fry
A Poor season regarding the weather. We were able to cover most matches although towards the end of the season some were left with only one umpire. Owing to the revision of the Laws there was no warning course held this year.
With the introduction of the new laws a four week course has been held for umpires to study the new and revised laws. There are over thirty new additions and alterations to the laws which need studying. It is hoped that some arrangements can be made to have discussions with the teams and scorers.
May I thank Sir Thomas for his generous offer of allowing us to use a room at the castle for thetraining course. Thank you Sir. My thanks to our League Secretary for help and support during the year.
All the reports were accepted by the meeting

The following clubs said that they were dissatisfied with the Lords Cricket Ball - Thirsk, Birstwith, Bilton, Wath and Bolton Abbey. THIRCON
We would like all games up to SEPTEMBER to start at 1 .3Opm and all games in SEPTEMBER to start at 1pm.(The reason being that now we have half an hour to tea instead of 20 mins and playing 45 overs teams are tending to take longer to bowl their overs. Consequently we are getting much later finishes after 8pm and later, so we feel that an earlier start would benefit people that have things to do on a Saturday night) Seconded by Hampsthwaite DEFEATED
