DISCIPLINARY PANEL REPORT

Roger Deakin has resigned as Disciplinary Committee Secretary. This follows his utter disbelief of the result of the Appeals Panel’s decision to reduce the suspension imposed on Shaun Sowray. Sir Thomas gave the reasons for Roger Deakins’ decision given in his letter received by the League Secretary dated 9th June.
Sir Thomas proposed and both Erik Thompson and David Burton seconded that Steve Whitley be elected the new Disciplinary Panel Secretary. Unanimous committee decision and Steve was elected.
A long discussion followed on the incident at Ouseburn C.C. when Shaun Sowray and Dave Parkin were involved. Some clubs and members unhappy at the final result and feel that the Appeal Disciplinary Panel ‘got it wrong’. Many Umpires disgusted and four of them have stated that they will not umpire Bishop Thornton matches again. Erik Thompson welcomed David Burton and Eric Houseman’s support in this matter. Hearing and appeal results should be sent to Ackrills for publication. Erik Thompson – Press report.

All Disciplinary Decisions should be put on our Web site.
Disciplinary Hearing on Monday July 12th – on going – Ben Nami.
Disciplinary Committee From 1990 to be sent to E.C.B. following a letter from E.C.B. dated June 15th 2004.''There is one other very important piece of work that is starting to take shape. We are looking at the introduction of a new system of notification of player suspensions and the establishment of consistent disciplinary procedures within the recreational game. The primary issues relate to achieving a consistency of penalty for similar offences and a method of preventing players escaping penalty merely by switching League. We hope to be able to distribute a consultation paper to Leagues during the summer and will certainly welcome any contributions from Leagues over the coming months.''
