UMPIRES SECRETARY REPORT
4 umpires from the Aire/Wharfe league umpired on the last day of the season. 10 people on the Umpires Course. All Umpires must be CRB checked. 3 or 4 not.
GROUND COMMITTEE REPORT
Bill Kitson in the absence of Chris Newton. Divisional Ground Awards 1 Birstwith 2 Ripley 3 Raskelf 4 Masham 5 Glasshouses 6 Ouseburn 7 Thirsk. In Division 5 Birstwith had the highest average marks, followed by Ripley.
The award goes to Glasshouses by default as both these clubs won the award in higher divisions. As with Division 5 the division 6 winners were Pannal who play at Glasshouses, followed by Sough Kilvington, where Thirsk, Division 7 winners also play.
MOST IMPROVED GROUND The award goes to Bishop Thornton, whse ground has been steadily improving over the past few seasons. Extra yardage on the boundaries and drainage work carried out during the early part of the season have helped gain them the award. Scotton should also be commended for their improved marks. Ground marks generally were lower than 2003, this can be ascribed largely to the very poor simmer. The most dramatic improvement statistically was Newby Hall, but as this come from an unacceptably low mark in 2003, it was deemed that they were in reality only recouping lose ground. Ground Coommittee. Given the continued excellence of Birstwith C C ground and the enthusiasm, skill and hard work of their groundsman Peter Armitage, the committee decided to ask Peter to become a member of the Ground Committee.
SIX A SIDE INDOOR 2004/2005
When the League started in 2002 there were 12 competing teams. The following season there were 13 and in 2004 there were 20. This season I am pleased to report there will be 29 teams, giving somewhere in the region of 200 youngsters 99 hours of cricket over the winter. Due to the high level of entries and the recreation Centre being closed for a month whilst the extension is completed, the season commences this Saturday ( Oct 30th ).
Breakdown of the entries by age group is as follows :- Under 17 5 teams, Under 15 9 teams, Under 13 8 teams and Under 11 7 teams.
CHILD WELFARE OFFICER
The 3 courses held in the past few weeks had 53 people attending. 6 Club Welfare Officers have not attended and they must do so to qualify as a registered Child Welfare Officer for their Club. Burnt Yates, Crakehall, Harrogate, Killinghall, Ouseburn and Wath are the offenders. Letter to go to these clubs advising them that further measures will be taken if they fail to attend a Good Practice Child Protection Course. The Nidderdale League management Committee now reserves the right to penalise any club who fails to comply with ECB regulations with regards Child Welfare.
We put on record our thanks to Bradley Atkinson for the first class work done on our behalf.
