On Saturday 4th August a sneak thief took a quantity of money, a wrist watch and mobile phone from the dressing rooms at Pateley Bridge CC
On the same day a set of stumps was stolen from South Kilvington's ground between the groundsman setting them out and the start of play
It is tempting to think of cricket grounds as safe places, but this is obviously not so.
Please don't be lulled into a false sense of security. Please take adequate precautions to protect your property. Thieves will go for the easiest target. The more difficult your valuables are to get at, the more likely they are to be there after the match.
Monday 30 July 2001 - FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE UPDATE
We are now into the second half of the season, and although foot and mouth disease no longer attracts daily headlines the grim fact is that as far as North Yorkshire is concerned outbreaks are continuing rather than diminishing.
For those who may not be au fait with the situation, the facts are as follows:-
Confirmed cases in North Yorkshire currently total 124 making North Yorkshire the fourth worst affected region, after Cumbria, Devon and Dumfries/Galloway.
Confirmed cases within 10 miles of a Nidderdale League ground currently total 57 although there is no ‘safe’ distance.
What is also of concern is that outbreaks are being confirmed on three sides of the region, from the Skipton area in the West, Wensleydale in the North West, and Thirsk in the North East. The latest cluster around Thirsk is close to one of the Major pig rearing areas in the country, and if the disease gets into pig Herds it could cause immense suffering down the Vale of York. We can only hope that the disease is soon controlled, but in the meantime please continue to try to help clubs whose grounds and players are being affected by the disease, several of whom will not be able to play a home match during the whole of this season, and please continue to take every precaution to prevent the further spread of the disease.
