Monday 4 August 2008 - Nidderdale Junior Cricket League U 13s Lords Taverners

The Nidderdale U13's Lord Taverners played some very good cricket in their 4 group matches and narrowly missed out on a semi-final place by 5 runs.

In the first match at Thornbury C.C. v Bradford Central Nidderdale fielded first with Alex Gates being the pick of the bowlers claiming match figures of 5 for 27. In reply Nidderdale knocked the runs off with 18 overs left with Jonathan Tattersall 57 not out.

The next match v Barnsley at Darton C.C. was played on a very hot day - Barnsley batted first and scored a mammoth total of 257 for 9, wickets were shared equally by Oly Hotchkiss, Alex Gates, Steven Townsend & Miles Lloyd. In reply Nidderdale made a very credible 212 with Felix Adams 51, Jonathan Tattersall 31 and Steven Townsend 34 not out.

The next match at Follifoot was against the Bradford League which included several Yorkshire players and who had the day before bowled Barnsley out for 84. Bradford Batted first and were restricted to 182 all out. This was a result of some good ground fielding and bowling from Jonathon Tattersall 4 for 22, and 2 wickets each to Cameron Pitt and Steven Townsend. In reply our openers Jonathan Tattersall (85) and Miles Lloyd (54) dominated the bowling attack and shared in an excellent and mature stand of 152. However, with nerves starting to take shape we lost 4 quick wickets but thankfully Felix Adams 18no saw us home with 4 balls left.

A victory was needed in our final match v Scarborough played at Beckwithshaw to accumulate 4 batting/bowling points to become group winners. Scarborough batted first and scored 224 for 6. Steven Townsend took 4 for 49, Ashley Griffin and Craig Broadley both bowled well without much luck. In reply Felix Adams (56), Ashley Griffin (44) both batted well producing some fine strokes and Alex Gates (18no) hitting some lusty blows at the the end but we fell 5 short on 220 for 9.

The boy's competed well and were a credit to the league both on and off the field.

Monday 28 July 2008 - Calling all Umpires

From Barry Canham

I have unexpectedly been sent, by 'Lords International', an umpire's coat that I regret I cannot use, essentially because it is too large for me.
The coat also has been inadvertently embroidered with the 'Leagues logo, when I had been seeking a coat bearing the 'Umpires Association logo. They did manage to embroider the 'Association's initials, beneath the logo, however.

The suppliers were apologetic about these errors and have told me to keep the coat, for the use of any umpire who officiates in our 'League.
So, if you would like the coat for yourself, which is size XL (probably about 44" chest size, at least), or if you know of anyone who would , please contact me and we should be able to arrange its transfer.

Tuesday 1 July 2008 - NIDDERDALE JOE LUMB START WITH TWO IMPRESSIVE WINS

The Arrow Ready Drive Nidderdale League Joe Lumb side have made an impressive start to their campaign with two wins against strong opposition.

The first game against the Aire Wharfe demonstrated the strength of the Nidderdale League side in all departments. Batting first Aire Wharfe were restricted to 204 after Alex Lilley 3-30 had taken vital early wickets. Strong resistance came from Mark Cooper who finally fell to a skilful piece of leg spin batting from Matt Henry for 105.

In response Nidderdale scored at a measured rate to secure a vital win with 5 overs to spare. Batting superbly through the innings Ned Hammond accumulated 90 NO with a classy 45 from Skipper James Tattersall.

In the second game Nidderdale inserted the Huddersfield League and again Yorkshire Academy player Alex Lilley took three early wickets to restrict the opposition to 154. Again in response Nidderdale accumulated runs at a measured rate with Dan Coad scoring 52 and Alex Lilley 38 NO.

The next game is against the Craven League on July 13th at Bolton Abbey. 1 PM start. Spectators very welcome especially ex Joe Lumb players.

Friday 27 June 2008 - The Ingilby Shield 2008

The competition between Overseas Players and Home grown Talent is one that has been going on in sport for centuries. When the Romans brought Gladiators together in the Coliseum, often there would be a pitched battle between a foreign contender and the Emperor’s Prized Gladiator. It’s good to know that nowadays the competition is still as fierce, but thankfully there is no fight to the death, although sometimes a little blood is still spilt.

The competition will still be as fierce on Sunday 27th July 2008, when the sixth annual Ingilby Shield will take place at 2.00 pm at Ripley Cricket Club between an Overseas XI versus The Nidderdale Representative XI. With the Overseas XI winning the 2007 match by just one run last year, the Nidderdale XI will no doubt want to even up the tally to three a piece.

Nidderdale Team Manager, Dion Wood, will not only want to be winning the match, but will also be using it as part of his process for team selection, team building and their training regime for greater things to come at the end of their week. On Thursday 31st, a party from the Nidderdale League will travel to London to play in another annual match, which, up until now has always been played in Nidderdale. This year, by invitation, it will be hosted at Lords on Friday 1st August, a precedence which has never occurred before and is truly an honour.

Come along and support either side, depending on where you loyalties lay, there will be a bar and a Barbecue with plenty of free parking and some great entertaining cricket to watch.

For more information contact 07944 – 905855.

Clubs can also download a poster here which can be used to publicise the event.

Stothard (Harrogate), F. Oates (Studley Royal), J. Butterfield (Harrogate), C. Yates (Sudley Royal), A. Lewis -12th man (Harrogate)

Monday 23 June 2008 - Neil Burtwistle

It is with immense sadness that we have to report the death on Sunday 22nd June of the Honorary League Treasurer, Neil Burtwistle. Neil had suffered a very mild heart attack some days earlier but was expected to make a full recovery, and, having been cleared to do so by the doctors, was greatly looking forward to playing cricket again.

Neil was a true cricket fanatic, and his passion for the game took him all around the world in support of the English team. He was a popular and active member of Burton Leonard CC, both as a tenacious batsman and as a club official. He also played a very important role, encouraging and nurturing the development of the club’s younger players. As league treasurer for several years he was responsible for ensuring that the league’s finances were in a sound and healthy condition. He was a true Yorkshire accountant, collecting subscriptions, sponsorship moneys and fines with terrier-like determination and always negotiating the best possible deal with our suppliers. His contributions to discussions at management committee meetings were forthright and passionate, his support for the game in Nidderdale unwavering. Neil was gregarious and sociable: a chuckle was never far from his lips and wherever he went, laughter would swiftly follow.

His many friends in the wide community that is Nidderdale cricket regret his sudden and untimely death, and stand united in their grief. We send our condolences to his wife, Jenny, and children Kris and Rachel. In numerous memories his chuckle will continue to reverberate around the grounds of Nidderdale and he will be greatly missed.

Treasurer Needed
In the aftermath of Neil Burtwistle’s unexpected and untimely death, we are urgently looking for a treasurer to continue Neil’s excellent work and take care of the League’s finances. If anyone might be able to help, please contact Tricia Heard in the first instance.

Tuesday 3 June 2008 - From Rainton CC

Unfortunately, our new neighbours have imposed a restriction on our access to their land for the retrieval of balls. Although we are disappointed with their decision, we have no option other than to comply and would ask that all players are understanding of the situation and do not enter their garden. We hope that this matter will be resolved soon, but this of course is reliant on maintaining as good a relationship as possible in the mean time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Wednesday 9 January 2008 - To All Clubs

I am a member of my local village cricket team (Round Of Gras) from Badsey in Worcestershire. We are in the process of planning a cricket tour in Yorkshire in July 2008. Unfortunately I do not have any contacts in your area and would like to arrange some 40 over games for our stay. We are staying in wigglesworth and would like fixture's for the Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th of July. We are a very social side, with only 3-4 league players in the team. We firmly believe in playing the game in the correct spirit.

If you can help with any of the fixtures or know of side's in your area that are willing to play touring sides, please contact me using this e-mail address or telephone 01386 831337.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks for your time and help.
