Tuesday 20 December 2011 - 2012 Club Contacts
Would all clubs please check that their contact details are up to date and submit any changes for the 2012 season using the online form. Please could this be done by end of January 2012 to allow enough time for them to go into the printed handbook.
Thursday 15 December 2011 - 2012 League Fixtures
The revised 2012 League Fixtures are now available to download here.
Wednesday 14 December 2011 - Junior Girls’ Friendly League
The North Yorkshire Women and Girls’ Cricket Development Group are looking into setting up a “friendly league” in 2012 in order to increase the amount of cricket available for girls in North Yorkshire. They already have a small number of teams interested.
As this is intended to be a “friendly league”, the intention is that the girls could be aged anywhere from 8/9 up to 15 in the teams - a format which is presently successfully used between a small number of clubs in the region.
They are seeking either any other clubs who wish to join this group or alternatively, if there are girls out there who would like to play in the league, they should contact John Skinner and he will direct them to their nearest, most suitable club. Any volunteers to help are also welcome.
Anyone requiring any further information should contact John directly.
Monday 12 December 2011 - ACO Accreditation
The Association of Cricket Officials (ACO), supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board, (ECB) is the organisation that represents cricket officials in the recreational game.
The ECB ACO is offering, for one year only, the chance to be a recognised ECB ACO scorer and credit you with a relevant Scorers’ Award; Level 1 or 2. This will not involve any courses or exams, simply a verification of the standard that you are currently scoring at.
This initiative is aimed at verifying and rewarding the work of Scorers at all levels from friendly, school, youth and feeder league matches, up to and including those who score in Premier or Senior leagues or above.
It is recommended that from 2012 all Premier League clubs should have an ECB ACO Level 2 scorer and this process will help clubs to achieve that. This aspect of the game is also an integral part in gaining and maintaining any ClubMark status.
To apply for the accreditation please complete the downloadable application form and return it to ECB ACO. PLEASE COMPLETE THE FORM even if you do not wish to apply for accreditation so that we can update our database and more efficiently service the needs of scorers.
You will then be contacted to arrange for your verification to take place. This is offered free to all ECB ACO members and if you are not an ECB ACO member then a charge of £30 will be made which will include your first year’s FREE ACO MEMBERSHIP. Details of membership benefits can be found at ,a href="http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecbaco">www.ecb.co.uk/ecbaco but include free CRB disclosure, Insurance, quarterly magazine, and a national appointment system providing opportunities to score at a higher level.
The ECB ACO is committed to providing a pathway for all officials that mirrors that for players and coaches – that is, from the Playground to the Test Arena. If, on the other hand, your ambitions do not extend beyond scoring for your local club, then you are equally valued for the contribution that you can make to this great game of ours.
This offer is only available until the end of March 2012. Further information on this initiative is available from scorer.aco@ecb.co.uk or contact the local YCB ACO North Yorkshire branch secretary, Graham Hyde or 07764 753066 or for more information see http://ycbaconorthyorkshire.wordpress.com
Monday 5 December 2011 - 2012 Fixture - ALL CLUBS
Would all clubs please ignore the 2012 fixtures that have been circulated today as there will have to be some ammendments. Revised copies will be sent out later this month.
Friday 2 December 2011 - Golden Oldies Cricket Festival in Adelaide
The next Golden Oldies Cricket Festival will be taking place in Adelaide from Sunday 25th November to Sunday 2nd December 2012: full details are available on www.goldenoldiessports.com and there is a downloadable info document, but in general terms the format will be very similar to the one that we organized here last year, with the Grand Parade of the nations and opening ceremony inside the Adelaide Oval on Sunday evening, three matches against international opposition on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the picnic day for all participants and their wives on Tuesday, a sightseeing day on Thursday and the Finale awards dinner on Saturday night. The player / partner package includes all of the above with the exception of the sightseeing programme, which is extra. Accommodation for 7 nights, food and unlimited drink at the formal festival events, and transport to and from grounds and formal events are included.
A number of people have already contacted me to say that they are keen to take part and I would like to raise one or more teams from Nidderdale and the surrounding area. We have a small pot of money left over from the last festival and will use this to subsidise the cost of the official team on and off field outfits, as a bonus to all those who come with us.
Anyone who is interested in coming should register their name with Sir Thomas on sirthomas@ripleycastle.co.uk indicating whether they are possible, probable or definite tourists. If you can think of anyone who might want to come, please let them know about the meeting: we would like to take a strong contingent from Nidderdale so the more the merrier!
Thursday 1 December 2011 - 2012 Fixtures
The 2012 League fixtures have been requested from Roger Dale and there was concern was over Bedale 2nd XI who will play in Division 9. Bedale’s 1st XI play in the North Yorkshire South Durham League and their fixtures will not be finalised for several weeks. We have organised our own fixtures without consultation with the NYSD as it was felt that we could not wait. As a result there may be some rearrangement of fixtures depending upon whether Bedale 1st XI are home or away when Bedale 2nds are due to be at home. As Division 9 will be shorter than the rest of the Divisions, it is possible that games could be rearranged on the vacant weeks (Division 9 will start on week 2 and finish on week 19).

Listed below are all the 2011 Nidderdale League prize winners. The trophies will be presented at the League Dinner on Friday 18th November, preferably to the people who have actually won the awards. Tickets are still available from Chris Newton on 01765 600325.

Tuesday 26 July 2011 - To All Clubs
The following decisions were taken by the Nidderdale League Management Committee on Monday 25th July 2011.
Due to the withdrawal of Dishforth Cricket Club from Division 5 the following promotion and relegation will apply for the 2011 season. Divisions 1, 2, 3 and 4 are unaffected.
Division 1 2 Down
Division 2 2 Up, 2 Down
Division 3 2 Up, 2 Down
Division 4 2 Up, 2 Down
Division 5 2 Up, 1 Down
Division 6 2 Up, 1 Down
Division 7 3 Up, 1 Down
Division 8 3 Up, 1 Down,
Division 9 3 Up
An application from Bedale Cricket Club has been recieved by the League to enter a 2nd XI in 2012. This application was approved by the Management Committee and this new team will enter in Division 9, thus making a division of 8 teams.
As a result of Dishforth CC withdrawing from Division 5, all points gained in fixtures against Dishforth will be removed from all clubs in Division 5. This was seen to be the fairest option as not all teams had been given the opportunity to play Dishforth at home. The Division 5 league table will be ammended and published. This decision also affects the end of season calculation of averages, both in league fixtures and cup fixtures. Any performances against Dishforth CC will not be counted in calculation of end of season averages.

The match will commence at 2.00 pm on Sunday 10th July. It will be ideal for an afternoon of entertainment with a Barbeque, Beer Tent, ample free parking and toilets.
The Overseas XI Captain Jason Wylie said, “I believe the teams have been fairly evenly balanced over the years and with the tally at 5 to 3 in favour of the Overseas, it would be great to notch another victory up and put a bit of a cushion between the sides”.
There are clubs represented on both teams from throughout the Nidderdale League so it will be a wonderful cricketing spectacle to come along and support your club or country. The full teams will hopefully be announced in next week Advertiser.
Friday 24 June 2011 - Jack Fox
It is with great sadness that we announce the news that Jack Fox passed away on Monday 20th June. Jack was a Life Member of Goldsborough Cricket Club and an avid supporter long into retirement. A fanatical sportsman in his younger days he played for the club for several years. After he stopped playing he became a regular watcher of anything to do with cricket (and any other sport) and he watched Yorkshire 1st's or 2nd's at every opportunity. Indeed we understand that he watched Yorkshire 2nd's so regularly that the lunch ladies included him in the numbers!
He also developed a 'circuit' of Nidderdale matches on a Saturday - but always ended up spending most time at Goldsborough. His words of 'sage advice' ringing in many young cricketers ears !! Despite failing health he remained a regular until relatively recently. Jack's funeral service is on Tuesday 28th June at St Andrews Church Starbeck 2:45pm, followed by a private cremation for family only.
Friday 24 June 2011 - Week 11 (Saturday 25th June) change of Venue

Monday 20 June 2011 - Lord’s Taverners U11 Sunday 19th June 2011
After a massive bail out and clean up by Pete Armitage, Julian Bowden and their salvage crew the first of the U11 Lord’s Taverners games was able to go ahead on Sunday afternoon versus Upper Airedale.
On a green and obviously damp wicket Upper Airedale won the toss and elected to bat, which at the time seemed like a strange decision, but wasn’t quite as strange as they managed to amass 139 runs for the loss of only 4 wickets. It would have been a lot more had the fielding not been quite so outstanding with 2 good catches and a diving one handed attempt that had it have stuck would have deserved to win the match on its own.
The reply got off to a very positive start with the first ball of the Nidderdale innings being despatched to the boundary in no uncertain terms. Things didn’t go all Nidderdale’s way and although there were contributions from all the batsmen wickets kept falling at regular intervals and the runs dried up for a while. To the point where the last over saw a new batsman in and 14 runs needed to win. Having only needed just over 4 an over from the start the odds didn’t look good, but it has to be said that the Nidderdale batsmen rather than the opposition bowlers held their nerve better and 14 runs were duly scored the last one off the final ball of the innings. Well done to all concerned a full scorecard can be seen on the junior results site.
Many thanks to all involved from Birstwith CC without whose efforts the game would never have taken place.

Thursday 16 June 2011 - Play Hard, Play Fair and Stay in the Game
ECB and MCC have announced a new joint initiative – ‘Play Hard, Play Fair and Stay in the Game’ aimed at improving standards of behaviour in junior cricket.
The initiative, which is also supported by PCA, ESCA and the HMC Schools, has been devised to help educate youngsters about the challenges they may face as players or as captains and promote a wider acceptance and understanding of the ‘Spirit of Cricket.’
Drawn up in close consultation with age-group players, coaches and managers, the project invites all children participating in Under 15 cricket this summer to take part in an online quiz based around ten different cricketing scenarios and include an opportunity to win tickets to an npower Test Match.
It is accompanied by the implementation of a new code of conduct for junior cricketers which is being circulated to all junior clubs and match officials.
ECB Head of Non-First Class Cricket Paul Bedford said: “As well as learning that cricket is a fun and enjoyable sport, we want all young cricketers in whatever competitive situation they are in to understand that they have a crucial role to play in upholding the game’s historic reputation for fair play.
“There is no place for bad behaviour in cricket and this initiative is designed to help teach the next generation of players about the importance of showing respect to your opponents, match officials, coaches, scorers and spectators.”
MCC’s Head of Cricket, John Stephenson, said: “MCC is delighted to be working in partnership with the ECB to deliver this new initiative, which will help to ensure thousands of young people adopt the Spirit of Cricket principles of playing hard and fair.
“MCC Spirit of Cricket represents a central force for good in the game at all levels – from the grassroots to the Test match arena – and has been embraced by the world’s finest players. We hope this new initiative helps young cricketers to learn about the benefits of teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship, and encourages them to win and lose magnanimously.”

The next festival is taking place in Adelaide, South Australia from 25th November to 1st December, 2012 and several teams and individual players have expressed an interest in participating. Last year’s festival was hugely enjoyed by everyone who took part and it will be even more fun for those attending as overseas visitors.
The GO package includes:
Hotel accommodation in Adelaide – reduced prices for the festival - see the festival brochure
Attendance at the opening ceremony, the parade of the nations through Adelaide and the welcome party afterwards, with unlimited food and drinks.
The picnic day with unlimited food and drinks
The farewell awards dinner with food and unlimited drinks.
Cricket – three friendly international matches on the Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Free coach transfers to all of the above
Three festival newsletters during the week
Loads of fun and laughter with some of the nicest people you are ever likely to meet on or off the cricket pitch.
Every cricketer who will be over 40 on 26.11.12 is eligible to play, and the league encourages everyone who wants to go put their names forward to the league at an early stage. We are aware that a few clubs are planning to go under their own steam, but for all those individuals who want to go, you are invited to join one of the Nidderdale League Golden Oldies teams. Players of all ages (over 40) and abilities are welcome to join us with wives / partners if applicable, and WE WILL TAKE AS MANY NIDDERDALE LEAGUE TEAMS AS WE NEED TO ENABLE ALL OUR PLAYERS TO PLAY, and will, with funding left over from last year’s festival, provide (or at least subsidise – subject to available funding!) one-off Nidderdale Adelaide Festival 2012 team apparel for everyone to wear while we are out there.
Gulliver Sports Travel, who were extremely efficient when they made all the travel arrangements for our festival, will make all the airline bookings etc for us.
Costs are as per the Adelaide leaflet: we will probably make one of the mid-range hotels our base for the week. Anyone wanting to stay on and see more of Australia afterwards is welcome to do so: shame to go all that way and not visit Sydney etc. If you are interested put your name down on the form, and we will contact you with further information.
Special Offer for Nidderdale sides
As a token of their gratitude for the exceptional hospitality provided by the league and host grounds last year, Air New Zealand have made a very special offer to any teams from our area who want to play in Adelaide: they will be entered free of charge and the registration fee of $300 will not apply. Local teams applying for the festival should endorse their entry form ‘2010 Festival Nidderdale League Team

Monday 28 February 2011 - Stay in the game, stay in the spotlight
Many of us in the region will be looking forward to the warmer, summer days when we can once again enjoy that quintesessional English game of cricket. Many will not know much about the dedicated individuals who volunteer to give up their Saturday afternoons to give something back to the game that they love. Cricket umpires and scorers often go un-noticed but perform a valuable service to the game. You can't have a game of cricket without a scorer! Even if you just wish to umpire at your son or daughter's school or score for your local village team, you are as vital to the game and as any first class or county official.
With all the international matches, domestic county competitions and national cups, the England and Wales Cricket Board, Association of Cricket Officials (ECB ACO) has the task of encouraging and maintaining a steady flow of new officials to help manage all of these and the rest of the games that are played up and down the land every week. The ECB ACO aims to enhance your feeling of belonging by safeguarding your security by including comprehensive insurance as part of your joining fee.
Creation of a local (North Yorkshire) branch of the ECB ACO will be discussed at the forthcoming meeting, details below and the election of officials will take place. Thriving branches are already in operation in, amongst other areas, York, Leeds and Bradford so if you wish to be part of the management of this branch please come along to the meeting and get involved.
Some important rule changes have been made by the MCC and local umpire Guy Smalley will be running through the Changes. All local umpires and scorers are encouraged to attend.
