Tuesday August 2007 - Arrow Ready Drive Nidderdale U15s Lords Taverners
The Nidderdale League Lord's Taverners Under 15 team met with mixed fortunes winning two and losing 2 matches in this year's Yorkshire festival and finished 3rd place in their 5 team group. Manager Rod Ford highlighted the squad's lack of consistency and the failure of individual players to perform to their capabilities over the four group matches as being the main reasons for their final group position, "We performed very well against North Yorkshire and Wetherby, had an indifferent match against Bradford and were very poor against East Yorkshire".
Nidderdale League 174-7 Bradford Junior League 178-5
Only opener James Ford (26) of the early order batsmen seemed at ease against a lively opening Bradford pace attack. When Ford was dismissed at 58-5 things were looking bleak, a silly run out followed leaving Nidderdale on 61-6, however a lively and spirited stand of 84 between Peter Barnes (70*) and Michael Ainsley (41) rescued the side and gave them a total of 174 which they had previously not looked like achieving. The Visitors reached their target in 37.5 overs for the loss of 5 wickets, Jonathan Hare taking 2-18 in 3 overs.
Nidderdale League 105 all out North Yorkshire 95 all out
A low scoring game saw bowlers of both sides dominate, after losing 2 early wickets skipper Jamie Bryant (37) and James Ford (22) shared a stand of 54. After that the only other batsmen to reach double figures were Chris Hooper (10) and Josh North (10*). The Nidderdale leagues bowling had to be special to win the game and indeed it was with Alex Lilley (2-28 from 10 overs) and Jamie Bryant (4-21 from 10 overs) making early inroads into the North Yorkshire batting, ably supported by Chris Hooper (3-20) to leave the visitors 11 runs short of victory.
Nidderdale League 282-7 Wetherby League 94 all out
A run feast at Bilton CC on the 7th August against Wetherby saw contributions from Jamie Bryant (69), Peter Barnes (68*), James Ford (36), Alex Lilley (26), and Chris Hooper (23). This enabled the Nidderdale League to post a mammoth total. In reply the opening attack of Lilley (3-38) and Bryant (3-19) were far too hostile for the Wetherby batsmen. They were supported by Chris Hooper (2-11) and a wicket apiece for Craig Griffin and Jonathan Hare.
Nidderdale League v East Yorkshire
Needing to win their final fixture against East Yorkshire at Hull Zingari CC, Nidderdale league could not cope with the turning ball on a wicket of variable bounce and gave a very poor batting display. Only Josh North (29*), James Ford (17), Jamie Bryant (16), and Ned Hammond (12) reached double figures. Nidderdale's bowling was as poor as their batting and the hosts reached their target in only 19.2 overs.
