Tuesday September 2007 - Arrow Ready Drive Nidderdale JCL Joe Lumb
The Arrow Ready Drive Nidderdale JCL Joe Lumb team produced a stunning performance to overcome their Huddersfield counterparts by 5 wickets in the Jack Lees trophy final at Broad Oak CC on Sunday.
On a bitterly cold day Huddersfield elected to bat, but were soon in serious trouble as high class pace bowling by John Ormesher and Alex Lilley accounted for the first 4 wickets with only 22 on the board. However a middle order partnership of 83 got the home side back on track, but Nidderdale stuck to their task and superb fielding with 7 catches being taken finally limited Huddersfield to a total of 202 all out in 49 overs. Ormesher finishing with 4-53, Alex Lilley 2-23 and brother Tom 3-48.
In reply Nidderdale got off to a solid start and contributions were made by all who batted. James Tattersall made a fine 57 and having wickets in hand meant that although going into the final 7 overs 50 runs were still needed, Nidderdale remained firm favourites. The stage was set for Ross Sedgley and Alex Lilley to guide Nidderdale home with 6 balls to spare, Lilley hitting the winning runs with an enormous 6.
This was a highly creditable performance by a Nidderdale side who have gone through the entire season unbeaten and is the first time in the history of this competition that we have run out winners.
