Tuesday September 2007 - Powerful Pannal Win U15 League Play off Final
Unbeaten in the league all season Pannal Pirates took their good form into the play off final.
Batting first on an excellent wicket at Studley Royal, Pannal scored a competitive total of 111 in 22 overs against a very potent Ouseburn attack. Catching the eye for Ouseburn were Jamie Briant 1 for 20 and Ben Jones 1 for 16. Pannal's total was built on a watchful opening stand of 33 from Chris Hooper (21) and Alex Lilley (19). Then came the telling partnership of the game between James Rawlings (17) and John Hare (35 NO) who both produced some classy shots in combining to produce 53 runs.
In the field Pannal made sure Ouseburn had to work hard for every run. Chris Hooper bowled consistent wicket taking balls finishing with figures of 2 for 13. At the other end Alex Lilley bowled with venom and was supported by some excellent fielding. The first change bowling kept up the pressure as James Rawlings and Jon Hare bagged 2 for 13 and 1 for 14 respectively. At 5 for 32 Ouseburn were a long way behind the run rate when Matt Henry struck quickly to take 2 for 8 from 3 overs to secure the victory.
A delighted skipper Matt Henry praised Ouseburn for the way they bowled in Pannal's innings and the way they fielded so well. He put his own teams success down to team work. "Everybody has worked so hard this season on every aspect of their game and its nice to see the lads producing their best form when it really counts."
