Tuesday September 2007 - ArrowReadydrive Nidderdale Under 11 Reg Dickens Trophy
In the first season of 11A-Side cricket at Under 11 in the Nidderdale League a trophy in memory of Reg Dickens, a fine servant to junior cricket over many years, was contested. All clubs who had entered the first season of the 11 A-Side League were then entered into the Cup Competition, and Studley Royal and Cundall Manor fought through to the Cup Final.
Cundall Manor elected to bat first and thanks to some fine batting performances from T Wilkinson and Felix Adams they finished on a total of 115. In reply Cundall Manor bowled and fielded extremely well, but at 83 for 6 Studley Royal still just had their noses in front. Cundall Manor suddenly responded with 3 wickets for no runs and Studley Royals youngsters were in serious trouble. Still 33 runs short with only one wicket in hand the large crowd thought the final was all over. James Sharkey and Harry Lamb had different ideas, and thanks to stubborn resistance from James and a excellent 49 from Harry they managed to get Studley Royal over the winning line with 1 wicket to spare.
A very excited crowd, and two sets of fine young players, had got the Finals day off to a tense but exciting start. Sponsors ArrowReadydrive representative Tom Lister and Under 11 11A-Side Secretary Keith Egerton presented both sides with their medals, and the Reg Dickens Trophy to the winning Studley Royal team.
Studley Royal, managed by Steve Walmsley, had achieved the double by also winning the Under 11 11A-Side League, and these medals were also presented after the Cup Final.
