Monday August 2008 - Arthur Barrett Cup

The Final of the U17s Arthur Barrett cup took place at Bilton CC on the evening of Tuesday 22nd July between Birstwith CC and Ouseburn CC.

On a lovely summers evening Birstwith won the toss and elected to bat first.

Ouseburn's tight bowling restricted Birstwith to 60 for 8 off their 22 overs. A superb spell of fast bowling by Jamie Bryant quickly dissmissed Jonny Rice and James Riley with only 4 runs on the board. Opener Chris Langley steadied the innings, batting through for an excellent 24no. George Hirst chipping in with 12. Bryant taking 3 for 9 runs off his 6 overs and Ben Jones taking 3 for 16 runs off 6.

Ouseburn started well, then Bryant was dissmissed LBW by S.Robertson for 12. Jonny Rice bowled very tightly taking the wickets of Ross Mckenzie and Ben Jones which left Ouseburn 3 for 22 after 7 overs. Important knocks from Oli Rose 15no and Ian Campbell 13no brought Ouseburn home with 1.3 overs to spare to lift the cup.

The man of the match award went to Jamie Bryant for his excellent spell of fast bowling and a difficult catch in the deep.

Praise goes to both teams for making it such an exciting final, with some nail biting moments for both players and supporters
