Friday August 2011 - Nominations wanted to carry the Olympic Flame

The Olympic Flame will be visiting our district on Tuesday 19th June 2012 and they are urgently looking for nominations for people to carry it for part of the journey. If insufficient people from the Harrogate district are put forward, people from outside will fill in the gaps – which would be a shame for all those people who would have loved to have had the honour, but weren’t nominated!

Those nominated must be over 12 and able to run / walk / wheelchair 500m. The route will be between Harrogate and Ripon. Ideally they are looking for two categories: people aged 12-25 who have achieved something for the community, overcome great hardship or achieved sporting success in some field, and older people who have given outstanding community service or have achieved sporting prominence – a chance for some of our older and much revered cricketers to have their name put forward. To nominate someone go to www.lloydstsblondon2012.co.uk/carrytheflame. You will need a photo or video of the individual and you will need to say why you think he or she should be selected. The person you nominate must be aware that you have nominated them, and you must give your own details.

It would be lovely to see some Nidderdale cricketers – young and old – grab this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so please get nominating!
